“The Hound of Cold Hollow: Hunting the Hunter” (2021).

In 2015, while working on his documentary on the Vermont secession movement, Beyond Empire: Visions of a Peoples’ Republic, Thompson began researching cases of missing persons interwoven with local folklore in Northern Vermont. The research led to his discovery of one of America’s earliest monster myths.

On October 30, 2015, Thompson published his first reporting on the werewolf legend of Cold Hollow, which he later dubbed “The Hound of Cold Hollow” in a subsequent short film, Hunting the Hound of Cold Hollow (2018).

In 2021, Thompson was contacted by Niamh O’Connor, an artist and indie filmmaker from Boston, to make a follow-up movie based on Hunting the Hound of Cold Hollow. With Thompson as co-producer, O’Connor and cinematographer/editor Ryan Boera created The Hound of Cold Hollow: Hunting the Hunter (2021).

Thompson also created the original soundtrack for the film which he later released under the title “Welcome to Cold Hollow.”

Since the story first appeared online, the project dubbed “The Hound of Cold Hollow” has since grown into an ongoing effort involving a small community of researchers, writers, filmmakers, and other enthusiasts.
